DVF : De Very First!Y

DVF is Diane Von Ferstenberg in short, or at least this renown fashion designer's brand typography.

For the very first time in my life, I actually stepped into a high-end retail store! And I wore a designer's dress!! Which costs S$553!!! And absolutely fell in love with it!!!!

At DVF at Ion Orchard, the whole presentation of the store simply felt welcoming and the warm hospitality of the service was totally heavenly!

In case you're thinking that I'm starting to splurge on high-end designer goods because I'm in design school studying fashion and retail, I had to visit a high-end retail store for my project.

It's quite funny as I thought of how to make up a story just to get what I wanted for my project. I was suppose to sketch out the layout of the store but it's impossible to take out my sketchbook and start sketching in front of the staff and shoppers, so I came up with this scenario:

My project partner, Gui Ying was suppose to accompany me to look for a nice dress. So we went in, and started scanning the store, memorizing the positions. Then I looked for a black dress to "try", reason being I would be able to go into the fitting room and sketch the layout.

But what a waste to hold a designer's dress in hand and not give it a try, which was why I eventually wore it! I swear if I didn't give it a try, I would have so regretted when I walked out of heavenly DVF!

I'm looking for a black dress to wear on my brother's upcoming engagement dinner. The theme is BLACK because my brother set it as such. Simple.

Gui Ying's job was to roam around and continue scanning the place then get back into the roomy and posh fitting room to direct me what to draw. Of course, to not create any suspicion, she got the sales assistant to pick a few more dresses for me to "try" on.

Satisfied with wearing 1 designer's dress, I quickly changed out and both of us worked on the sketch and successfully took down the entire layout at ease. In the midst of sketching, we made "fake comments" about the draping and stuff, and shifted the hangers as if I was changing into another dress.

An interesting experience it surely was. I will not feel intimidated to walk in DVF ever again. Next target, which I have to muster enough courage first, to step into will be either Louis Vuitton, Miu Miu, Cartier, Prada, Giorgio Armani, Dior or Dolce&Gabbana. If I can conquer all these, I will have the guts to walk into any store =]

I'm 17Y

Right, in design school, there's no break when it comes to rushing for deadlines. How did I spend my 17th birthday on 12 May 2010? Went to school as usual, painted non-stop (ok, maybe breaks here and there to recharge) all the way till 10pm. Don't even mention about a birthday cake; I am grateful to have 2 muffins from my buddy =] thanks Lisa =] And a feast for dinner? Nope, I had cup noodles outside the studio with GuiYing, JiaXin and Cheryl. Great company, thanks girls =]

And thanks to Felix for the multi-million times "Happy Birthday".

It was heartwarming to see the number of people who flooded my facebook wall with birthday wishes. I've never received this many wishes in my life before... maybe it's just the number of friends increase as I grow older and meet more groups of people.

All in all, my 17th was really memorable, chiong-ing my 1m by 1m painting till I got pekcek.

THE IDEA BOOK from 大哥 and Siim Wii is very inspiring. Every idea quote, article and activity I read sets me thinking... I like =]

With this, it's going to help me generate lots of ideas in my future works. I'm looking forward to Block 2, with only 1 subject and one which I'm extremely interested in, Introduction to Visual Merchandising.

Keep it GoingY

Today, I feel the enhanced bond with my closest friends in Design School. Somehow history always repeats itself, prabably because I'm always who I am and society's situation is the same everywhere. Without Suffian, Lisa and Karei, I really don't know how to continue to believe in myself, to stop thinking I'm sort of a loser.

I was on the verge of giving up, ignoring all my assignments and rotting my pass few days away. But I kept drilling Moses's words into my mind : Never Stop Trying. I brain-washed myself to persevere on. Slow and steady wins the race, I told myself to tackle the assignments one by one, with no fear. And now I feel so relaxed, after submitting quality work on time =]

Many a times, my mind will let me be influenced by my surroundings. People in my class can't be any better; every individual has such strong character which is the reason how influencial they can be to me. At the same time because they are all so different, I learn to really really really learn to just be myself and be carefree of what opinion others have about me. I like the nice people in class =] Thanks for making the effort for Dress Up Day: Rock today.

With dragonboat getting serious and workload being consistently well so far, I'm still striving on.
