This kindergarten best friend of mine is one passionate blogger. Not that I aspire to be like him, but blogging has never been a priority in my life and definitely not during this stage of my life.
You may have heard of or witnessed the Flash Mob at Orchard Road on 13 June. This pal of mine was one of those crazy-looking people dancing on the street in pyjamas! What gave him that oppourtunity to be part of it was actually one post on his blog regarding the fashion sense of dear oh Singaporeans.
What I like about such blogs is the language used. Most people's blogs are filled with short-forms and vulgarities and whatever nonsensical language errors you can think of. Well, Joel the Legendary has truly shown that teenagers can produce quality compositions. He can absolutely treat his blog as a new platform to replace magazines!
Anyway, my point is... I'm trying to learn vocabulary from his super long composition.
1. alter-ego : a second side to somebody's personality, different fromt he one that most people know
2. pun : a humorous use of words that involves a word or phrase that has more than one possible meaning
3. sentiment : a feeling or opinion prevailing among a group of people
4. galvanization : the stimulation of something into a great activity
5. avant-garde : writers, artists, filmmakers or musicians whose work is innovative, experimental, or unconventional, considered as a group
6: beacon : somebody or something that is a source of inspiration
7. self-immolation : suicide, usually as burning, as an act of sacrifice
8. disheveled : with messed-up hair or clothes
9. fedora : those nice hats... stop calling them hats... let me get a picture of it
9 new words! ... ... ... and hopefully I can store them in my word bank =]
