Right, the moment I stepped into RGS, I met up with the other Main ExCo members and... Soo Han was still having breakfast?! Alright, as we waited at the foyer, I saw Rachel! Yes, that Rachelly Rachel from HCI's 14th SLC's Firminus! COOL!
Back to the topic, TK is opening a new board known as the Peer Support Board, hence nurturing this bunch of Sec 2s (who will be Sec 3s next year) each holding the title, Peer Support Leader. Thus, the 5 of us were sent to RGS yesterday to interact with other schools and hopefully bring back useful tips which will help hold this new board till it stabilizes.
I'll just jump straight to ice-breakers... They were awesome! I mean, the games may look and sound silly, but everyone had a wonderful time participating in them! Tip taken: Where to get the games from. RGS PSB kindly included the URL in the programme booklet =P I ain't gonna let anyone know...it will be too useful for those who read my blog whom will be planning games for their various camps =PP
A school counsellor from RGS also gave us tips on how to be an effective peer mentor and what a peer mentor really is.
In the afternoon, there was a workshop by Trybe on Peer Mentoring. The reason why I was quite bored (I bet so did Soo Han, Sharmane and Ryan) was that it wasn't the first time we did that storyline thing. We knew exactly the correct arrangement and how the story ran. Since we didn't want to spoil the activity, we just followed each of our own group, as if it was our first time playing that THING. I've got to say, this time round, the stories were much crazier and there was even a no-link musical! There was skin bleaching, waxing, stalking, scandal and actually all of them had no link to Peer Mentoring... haha... but super entertaining! Anyway, it's supposed to be a story about Derek Redmond and his Dad, a true mentor we all should aspire to be.
Other than that, RGS, Cedar Girls' and VS shared their boards' structures, the events they run, specialities which others schools may want to pick up, etc.
It was definitely fruitful and I made new friends!!! That's the best part about going for such interactive leadership events.
Let's just hope that TK's PSB will build up smoothly and (I'm crossing my fingers) that there won't be any clashes between leadership roles with the SCs.
