Art craze?Y

My art lesson started at 12.20pm and should end at 2pm, but since I'd nothing on in the afternoon, I decided to stay and do some drawing.

I didn't have my lunch.

I almost fell asleep in the air-conditioned Art Studio as I had completed my day assignment and was waiting for Miss Tan to come back to the studio. I was quite bored. I read some art books and chatted with some Sec 1 students who came in to complete their work.

I've never ever been in the Art Studio for such a long time. I guess it's really going to be like my own "personal room" in my 2nd home.
I left the Art Studio at 5.40pm and headed out of school at 5.50pm.

Power, right?

at the "Greek Masterpieces from the Louvre"Y

Here are some pictures taken at the National Museum:

The craftmanship is really impressive; just look at how the artist made the hard marble look so smooth (for the skin) and so soft and thin (for the fabric).
This was the sculpture which I'd chosen to sketch on. It's well-preserved as compared to many others, and again, the ancient Greek artist made the fabric look soft. The depth of the carvings (between the 'cloth' and the 'skin') actually wow-ed me!

world of nothing but Art?Y

I went to the National Museum again; this time with Isabel to work on my artpieces. I didn't have much time, so I spent about 55 minutes doing the rough sketch of a finely-carved female marble head.

Sometimes I really wonder how peaceful it will be if all that people care is on Art. Wouldn't life be much more relaxed? Everyone will only be interested in Art, being stress-free and appreciate artpieces.

Most people have a misconception for Art, assuming that it's a subject which can lead you to nowhere. If someone actually tells me that, the first thing in my mnd wil be," Hey, you're just showing me how unknowledgeable you are, not even able to think out of your box. Like... heh, Art is a big topic which is important in life ok?"

Art is related to everything, from what we see to what we smell; basically, observation with all our senses. Be it Fine Arts, Visual Arts, Performing Arts or whatsoever, every artpiece is telling it's story, expressing an artist's thoughts.
It's not easy to come up with a self-satisfying artpiece. The simplest way is to create a composition which one can refer to, which is also the happenings surrounding the artist.

Art tells you the identity and culture of a place, Art brings life to us, and most importantly Art shows us the mood and ambience.

If someone's able to put everything aside just to appreciate Art, analyse pieces, this person is sure to be a Great mankind. Only someone who has the ability to think so deeply into every aspect of life has a right to be called the Great, won't you agree?

But again, without the negative happenings of life, artists can never be able to show the brighter side. There's got to be areas for people to focus on in order for artists to relate to.

It's impossible to have a world of nothing but Art, yet it's also i'mpossible to have a world of everything but Art. Life has always been this contradicting, hasn't it?

took a breakY

For once in my entire secondary school life, I skipped guides. Unbelievable eh? But I just did it.

It's really pressurising, when all the designs had to be shown to the principal within 2 schooldays. Yes, schooldays. Already having so much work to catch up and I'm still stuck with Council and Guides. I had to prioritise, so I chose to give myself a day's break from one of my commitments, guides.

I was rather guilty initially, but when I finally made up my mind, I felt really at ease. It's the first time in 2008, since school reopened, that I was so relaxed, just like my Sec 2 times.

I enjoyed the walk from school to the 21 bus stop. I wonder when will I be able to experience such a sensational moment again. Probably after the 'O' Levels?

Today was suppose to be the selection for Camp Challenge. I had always wanted to participate in such competitions, it was something I'd been waiting for so long. But I can't be having everything that I want, and I should let others have opportunities to interact with other schools as well.
TK Guides will excel, because I'm still in it. I know that the highest rank will be mine if I'm not a councillor, but I want someone else to understand leadership, the responsibilities and values behind it because I want her to benefit from leading a comapny she can call her own.

Don't worry peeps, I'm ChiawMin. I don't always pon stuff. I'll be back on track, it's just that everything is so overwhelming that I've gone a little haywire and needed time to tune back. I'm good. =)

Art lesson at National MuseumY

For the last 3 periods of school till about 3pm today, I was at the National Museum with Miss Tan. Initially, she was only interested in showing me the exhibition of the "Greek Masterpieces from the Louvre", but later on, since we had the complimentary ticket which allowed admission to all galleries, we viewed the other galleries which were more related to the history and culture of Singapore.

Well, the Greek exhibition was filled with artifacts, mainly marble sculptures, clay or bronze hardware and vessels, and golden or bronze accessories. It's really incredible and impressive to see how fine and perfect were the paintings of the ancient artists. Imagine them not having any help from technology, yet still able to draw perfect circles, and proportionate figures on not only flat surfaces, even on the vessels. The marvellous thing about their body sculpture was that they were able to give hard marble a soft texture when you see, and yet observing the little details of the human shape, and also making it such a way that the statues were able to stand on their own.
There were a small group of students who actually sat down and sketched the figures under the well-set lightings.
This exhibition was definitely an eye-opener for me. It made me understand more about the Greek empire in the ancient times.

The other exhibits were mainly on the history of Singapore. If you happen to go into the gallery showing the history from 14th century onwards, you'll find that it's very interesting in terms of the way how the museum bring you through the route. I won't say much; just go there and experience it yourself.

The 4 other smaller galleries are also known as the Living Gallery. They each disply the Fashion, Food, Photography and Films from our local culture.

If you have a chance, I'd strongly recommend you to take a tour at the National Museum, especially if you have to work on your history project on Singapore.

the brown eveningY

How amazing it is, to see the sky turn brown as it rains so heavily that it covers the orange sunset. The usual heavy rain had never been this bright. Today's bright, brown sky has brought hope to me...

busy JanuaryY

Just when I could finally heave a sigh of relief, I realised that January is a hectic month! I just cannot throw the sack off my shoulder because everything is so important to me and almost all of them need my presence.

(Friday)Today is 11 January 2008.
(Saturday)Tomorrow morning there'll be council meeting at 7.45am, followed by Youth Congress meeting at 9/9.30am (immediately after council meeting).
I'm actually suppose to attend an Standard First-Aid Course for the whole of tomorrow and Sunday, but due to my last minute meeting arrangement, I'll have to miss the first morning's lesson.
(Sunday)I'm booked the whole day for Standard First-Aid Course.
(Monday)14 January 2008, I'm suppose to attend A-Maths remedial in the afternoon and at the same time, Miss Toh wanted to see the China Exchange people to discuss about our China buddies' stay in Singapore. Before seeing Miss Toh, I've to meet the principal with other team members to get his approval on our proposal. At 4.30pm, all guides are to fall-in in front of the notice board to continue painting the banner for Thinking Day'08.
(Tuesday)15 January 2008, at 12.20pm when the entire 3J pack to leave for DnT, me, the only Art student will be heading to the National Museum with my Art teacher Miss Tan to view the artpieces on display. Then I've to rush all the way back to school to attend Physics experiment in the laboratory by 3.30pm.

Today is 11 January 2008.
In 11 day's time, the China buddies are coming to Singapore.
In 13 day's time, I'm suppose to submit my 50 pieces of art work.
In 14 day's time, it'll be my cousin's wedding and the home-stay period for my buddy.
In 16 day's time, it'll be the implementation of the 1st phase of the Youth Congress project in school and the date that the China buddies will be heading home.

Whoever who's super free and can produce high-quality work (lowest standard must at least be my best quality), please help me complete my stuff so that I can concentrate on my studies, especially Mathematics!!! I'm suffocating! Hiro from "Hero", please come and help me pause time!

Day 2 of lessonsY

It's only Day 2 and really, I can feel the pressure pressing on me. It's tiring, exhausting, but kind of make life more efficient. However, you somehow feel like giving up and throwing the workload everytime you see it piling up to a stack. You somehow feel even more worthless struggling when you're alone, walking this road so different from others.

There was mathematics lesson today, both E-Maths and A-Maths. I'm glad that I'd managed to catch up on E-Maths, but for A-Maths, everything was running too quickly (Mdm Halilah asumed that everything taught was easy) and it's difficult to follow when you don't have the booklets filled with notes to refer to (apparently the school didn't print enough and so I have to wait -.- ). I hope Mathematics won't be a disaster for me, especaily when my A-Maths teacher is my council teacher-in-charge!

There was Art lesson today as well! 3 periods of lesson in the Art Studio with only me and Miss Tan. It was really interesting to realise that Art is not just what you visually see, but also the message behind an artwork, about the thoughts and feelings being represented by whatever you so in the space given.
We went through the marking scheme and criteria, expectations, sharing session, and also view the artworks of previous students and those from other schools. I could tell that Miss Tan expects a lot from me, but she told me that it's all about how much effort I'll put in, as in... Art is rather demanding so I have to juggle it well with my other subjects and activities. At least she's encouraging enough to run my passion.
She's happy to have me as a student (or rather, only student); I can tell. She's using me for her case study as well ( which means I've to do extra homework for her to study on my background, mentality, maturity and understandings.
Art is cool (I don't mean literally it being cold in the air-conditioned Art Studio). And because I'm the only Art student, I get to use whatever i want that's available in school!!! In other words, I've a chance to expose myself to all kinds of materials and expression for Art!
Okay, it's getting more high (for me), it's good that I didn't give up taking this subject. It's a form of relaxation to me.

I better get going... I've to complete 50 pieces of A3-sized observational drawings within less than 3 weeks.

beginning of a new chapterY

I remember the first time stepping into 3J classroom, the kind of atmosphere and feeling was just horrifying. No other girls were inside and all the guys were in long white trousers, so it somehow made the stiff tone even colder, just as though I'd stepped into a white snowy forest, lost.

Today, once again, I braved into this special class filled with DnT student with only 5 other girls accompanying me. Well, I must say though the guys were not really welcoming, they treated me as a classmate, which is good enough.

Just when I thought that I can finally get back on track, I realised that I was a little out of place during class, especially during Physics, Higher Chinese, English and Maths lessons. Mathematics will be something I'll be struggling with as I've always been weak in this area and I really don't like numbers. Hey, does that mean Physics will be another killer? Oh sharks!

Anyway, within just that short period of 3-and-a-half days together with the Sec1s was really fun, for me. 1F wasn't as disasterous as the other classes, or maybe because I was able to control them? 1F had been very dear to me not only because they are the smallest class in the cohort, almost all of them entered TK via DSA (Direct School Admission), but also the respect and trust we had which we'd built up together. I'm glad to see that there're no major conflicts between any of them, and I do hope to see the class spirit building up over time. Thank you 1F for believing in me, if you need help or guidance, you can always drop me a tag, an e-mail or look me up around in school; I'll be more than happy to make your day!

As for now, though it's only the first day of lessons for me, I can already feel the stress and pressure from my family, friends, CCA, council and my studies. Time is so limited, but there's so much to do. I just hope that I'll be able to cope and, for the worst case scenario, at least maintain my current standards.

Good luck for chiawmin...

brand new 2008Y

As usual, I didn't want to miss the 8+ minutes of fireworks display for this new year.

Even though I left home at about 9.30pm with Mum and was at City Hall MRT Station at roughly 10.30pm and spent time looking for and meeting up with my brother and walking round and round to find a good spot, we were not considered late. At 11pm, we stay put at our location which was rather empty as compared to the Esplanade Bay. By 11.30pm, it became packed.

Though we couldn't catch the best view of the magnificent display, I couldn't complain more that it's important to go early if you're really into enjoying the finest spectacle.

The pictures taken this time round were not as nice as those taken during NDP.

And if you question why the lighted-flowers in the sky looks like erased away at the top-right corner, that's because right in front of us were a lamppost on the left and a tree on the right -.-

Here they are:

Happy New Year, peeps! May 2008 be joyful, thoughtful and successful.
